Women Connect

Sometimes, it's hard to really feel comfortable writing anything too personal on the internet.  (Or maybe not for everyone, but it is for me.)  So, anyway, here is my attempt, for Becky's link-up.  I'm a sort-of newlywed (it's been over a year since we got married, but that is still newlywed, right?) getting used to marriage and looking forward to babies.  Seriously, I love babies, and would love to have one now, but we'll probably wait a bit longer.

But marriage, oh marriage, I guess it is wonderful and hard all at the same time.  One of the hardest things is I don't really have any married friends.  I was 22 when I got married, and I had one friend who got married a week after me, but she immediately moved to Texas (while I moved to England).  A lot of our friends are either dating (which isn't quite the same) or ten-years older, meaning they often have children and are in a slightly different stage of life.  So it can be a bit lonely.  I've realized that my husband knows me better than just about anyone.  So he knows how to cheer me up and he knows how to be cruel.  It can be hard, the fights you have in marriage, but strangely, I usually feel pretty safe during our arguments.  They've never been huge, only just superficial, and they don't last long.  And we're both pretty good at saying 'I'm sorry'.

So really, overall, marriage is pretty great.  Moving to England with my new husband over a year ago was one of the best moves, because he was right there with me.  I realized that he'd pretty much always be with me, since hey, that's what marriage is.  Plus, my husband is pretty fun to be with.  He's almost always the number one person I want to spend time with, and now that we're married, we get to spend a lot of time together.  I love it, and I know that when our lives get busier (with children and full-time work and all that other stuff that comes with life) we'll really miss these years.

Plus, one of my best friends just got engaged two days ago!  I could not be happier for her, and I can't wait for her wedding, and to have another newlywed friend.

  1. Hi! I'm visiting from Women Connect! I think it's so cool you live in England, and I'm a bit jealous. I lived there for a bit when I was 16 - it was awesome!

  3. Visiting from Becky!

I totally know where you're coming from. I got married at 22 and NONE of my friends were married. And only 1 of my friends were married when I got pregnant at 25, so no body had any kids! It's been rough and lonely, but it does get easier!

  4. Hi! I am also visiting from Becky.

My husband, Alex, is obsessed about backpacking through England. He went there in high school, and that's been his dream ever since.

I look forward to learning more about England and you through this blog. :)

  5. We moved to Hawaii on our own 2 days after we got married... it was one of the best marital decisions we have made.

  6. hello rachel. what a lovely post. i moved from italy to england to join my husband two days after we got married (i was 23 years). life was pretty good and we lived the newlywed life for more than two years. seven years later we live in Canada, have a baby just turned 1 and enjoying life and all the changes that brings along.

having a loving husband like yours is always great because you can travel the world with your best friend/husband.

  7. I totally know what you mean about not having married friends. My husband and I moved to taiwan a couple years ago and we are both still in our mid twenties. No one over here gets married before 30+ so its hard to find people to connect with. It definitely gets a bit lonely but i think my husband and i have grown closer and stronger together than we would have otherwise.
Good for you for being so honest :)
