Sunday was the Superbowl, which was fun since we won. Go pats and all that. I watched the very end of the first half, when Seattle tied it up, and then the halftime show (weird) and some boring commercials. Such is our commitment to American sports that we turned it off after that because it seemed too stressful. On Monday, we got lots of snow, we stayed inside and Oliver practiced rolling over (he did it twice and now seems to have lost interest in ever trying again...but we'll see. At least he's now starting to enjoy being on his stomach for brief periods of time). Sam had the day off so he didn't have to worry about braving the slushy roads. I did lots of shoveling and it's getting pretty difficult, because our snow banks are so high that it's hard to find room to put the snow. I finished The Bone Clocks and really loved it. Now I'm re-reading David Mitchell's other books. On Tuesday, the roads were still pretty bad, and I had to go run some errands (just little things, like mailing a package) and probably drove everyone on the road crazy with my cautious driving.

On Wednesday, Sam went into work early so worked a 12-hour shift (8-8) and came home exhausted. He made up for it on Thursday by coming home early after a training session, so we got to spend some time together, listening to music, helping Oliver get the proper grip on his toys, things like that. We had another small snowfall on Thursday morning so Sam also did some more shoveling. On Friday, it was seriously cold outside, so we had another quiet day at home. I did laundry (which I do so much of now), read, and marinated some chicken so that we could have chicken fajitas for dinner. Maybe not the most obvious cold-weather food, but we've had a lot of soup lately. We actually had a little debate over whether or not soup is a full meal on its own, because apparently some people don't think it is. I think it's the best thing ever - so easy, delicious, healthy, and fun to experiment with. I mean, you can basically make soup out anything. Is that enough rambling about soup? Probably.
This weekend was still pretty cold, and we are enjoying yet more snow today. We had a quiet evening with Oliver on Saturday night, enjoying a stir-fry for dinner and then a little family movie night (which Oliver slept right through). I've always loved winter, but I'm starting to look forward to spring and seeing green grass again.
As a west-coast girl, I guess I was wanting Seattle to win - but I really don't care about football. The Superbowl's all about eating chicken wings for me. :-) Stay warm! I'm sure Oliver will be rolling over all over the place soon enough. :-)
ReplyDeleteI know I'll probably change my mind because it will cause all sorts of new problems, but I'm so exited for him to be mobile. Still a while away though haha. And yeah, we're not huge football people - I'm definitely more interested in the food. Plus I always feel sorry for the losers, anyway. I'm not very competitive I guess :)
DeleteWow those icicles are stunning. I hate driving in the snow - I am impressed you braved the roads to do your errands. Oliver is so cute. Sophie has rolled twice but not cared since! x
ReplyDeleteHaha exactly the same as Oliver! At least he doesn't hate being on his tummy quite so much now. And I 100% agree - snow driving is the worst.
DeleteWow - can't believe those icicles, it sounds much too cold to have a baby outside long anyway! x
ReplyDeleteYep that's probably true, although we got pretty good at wrapping up really thoroughly. Still at least we are able to stay warm inside during all these storms.
DeleteWowza - you're having so much snow! It feels like the winter is never ending here too - although it's mostly grey, cold and windy! Oliver is so gorgeous :)
